The Drop BUY: Rituel de Fille Soft Sorcery Weightless Serum Concealer
Only Magic Could Make My Under Eyes Look this Bright and Bouncy
If the eyes are the window to the soul, then my under eyes are a portal to a sleep-anemic, allergy-ridden purgatory that’s not quite blaring the blepharoplasty alarm, (trust me, I’m looking into it though), but the crepey and poufy nature of the delicate skin north of my cheekbones and south of my orbital bone is the area of my face that is always pulling my focus.
We all have our things, right?
My under eye thing has had me trying probably more than 50, but less than a hundred formulas over the last 3 years in a quest to either, make peace with my less than optimal under eyes (unlikely) or keep searching for the holy grail spackle paste for the face. All while making it look effortless, of course.
I’ve decided to recruit you on this quest (you’re welcome?) so you’re able to easier sort through the endless options out there. I will only share the concealers and tricks that I find worthwhile. If there is ever something related that you’d like to share, I would love to hear it and open a dialogue about the elusive under eye solution.
The latest product to hit my desk is from that wonderfully witchy brand Rituel de Fille. I’ve always enjoyed their branding and first thought it was Goth makeup, but then realized that they make incredible formulas that do have an ethereal quality on the skin and high color payoff with the pigmented products. Their latest, the Soft Sorcery Weightless Serum Concealer is seriously great. But then, there are a lot of great products out there.
Here’s what makes this one different. First, the shade range is very inclusive and the finish is opaque enough to even out the under eye area while also imparting a soft, satin-y finish. I find that a dewy and glowy finish exacerbates any recessed areas around the eye. The key is to make the area look even not just in color, but in surface texture.
The reason for the extra puff and sag below the under eye is due to these little fat pads we all have below our eyes. As we age, those fat pads start to detach and create a contrast (and thus, darkness) between the under eye and top of the cheek area. Getting filler in this area is a slippery slope and most (good/honest) injectors won’t agree to do it. If you’re Asian (me), getting filler in the under eye is even more of a no-no because we have an extra ligament in our eye area which will eventually push the filler outward and look chaotic.
Soft Sorcery concealer is apparently the the world’s first makeup formula ever to feature a new antioxidant active: Deinoxanthin which according to the brand is, “a fermented carotenoid (aka antioxidant) that works at a skincare-level concentration to improve the appearance of your under-eye area over time.”
Pardon my unhinged approach to applying concealer in the above video, but I feel like this is how most of us actually do it on a daily basis when we’re rushed and not able to execute at “GRWM” level.
I have found it to be brightening and definitely buildable and it doesn’t look too makeup-y even after swiping a little lightweight powder over it. Also, I am using two shades, the lighter for under the eye and slightly darker for extra contour at my cheekbones.
If you try Soft Sorcery, I’d be interested to hear what you think and/or if you’re using anything even better. Until then, I’ll be here under the spell of this otherworldly concealer.
Stamp out evil! Okay I need to put on more concealer….i do a single dot under each eye and then I’m like “why isn’t it covering?!”
