Disclaimer: this post was conceived of when it was very, very rainy and grey in LA. If you live in LA or just believe the stereotypes then you know, we make a whole lotta fuss about a little rain. So it did seem last Thursday as if the rain would nevvver stop. Spoiler: it did and it has and it was sunny and 65 degrees by Saturday.
But it will rain here again and it’s raining a lot in other parts of the world, so I wanted to share this two-toned trench coat with you, as getting to wear it is the reason I’m thinking about seeking out damp climates. Also, though we all pine for very sunny and warm days in spring, the truth of this season is that it is transitional and outerwear in these transitional times is often challenging to nail.

I don’t own any real rain coats, like one that someone might take camping (I don’t camp) or wear while being a rainy day dog walker warrior (don’t do that either but I see these heroes out there and I salute you). I do have this COS coat that I’m obsessed with and that happens to wick away water. There’s no hood, because why be so practical? But I love to wear it with a tan sweatshirt and a tan “LA” baseball cap for a monochromatic moment and also one that might lead someone to believe I’m sporty or care about sports. I am not and I do not, but I love the color of this hat and l do love LA even when it rains.

Also a transitional coat season contender is my favorite lightweight bomber from Moussy. It has a detachable shearling collar and looks tough but has soft poufy sleeves. Might be me if I were a jacket.
I wore it to a recent trip to Pa…cfic Northwest (did you think I was going to say Paris?) where it was surprisingly sunny yet predictably crisp. I wore it with deep cuff Pistola jeans and a white Moussy sweater, an old Givenchy scarf and some trusty ivory and black Sambas (as we do).
The bomber felt right in the grunge adjacent territory of Ashland Oregon and I was happy to channel the late 90s vibe (but with my mom bob, obv).
Scarves are certainly in for spring and I wear this old Givenchy one all the time, but plan to start circulating my scarf stash. They look especially good with a transitional trench and certainly soften up the hard edge of a bomber.
Happy lighter coat season and here’s to our love of layers. I don’t know all of you, but can sense that like me, you love a layer and find the most inspiration between each piled on piece.
Looking good in your rainy day outfit Missy! 😍😍
